Previously, Kiddo found three stray pearls, that allow her to breath under water,
and the trio came up with a plan to keep her from drowning…
…while they try to find their way back to Greatgramma’s garden.
Lets hope that they’re right. I wouldn’t go in there if you paid me to. You ever go swimming in a pond and have water weeds touch your feet? CREEPY! Imagine all of the things that could be LURKING just out of sight. That’s just a pond, THIS is… well, something else.

When they got to the place where they entered the lake, they could not get back. They could just barely see pale light, as through a tunnel, shimmering far above, but no matter how fast or how forcefully they swam, they could not get remotely close to that light.
"It's no use." Gilbert sighed, giving up for the moment. "Let's hide and figure out a plan."
They spotted a dark forest of tall lake weed nearby to hide in while they figured out what to do. The stalks were dense and tall, and their tops disappeared into the shadows above.
"We should be safe in there, for a bit," Alice said hopefully, "while we think."
